Google trends

I'm running little late on pushing this post out, was hopeing to have it out within a week of the new year.  I dont know how my mind put this togather (Google + Trends + New Years + Hang Over = W0W) Turns out Google trends can become a power full tool.

Hang Over

Hangover

Intresting data, notice how it peeks on the turn of the new year. Also notice how 2007 to 2008 new years is greater then the others. I would not asume that there were more drunks that year but more, people using google as a reference.

What else can Google Trends do? Wellf for start Google trends can show how much buzz is going on with keywords, by search volume, and the number of newarticals mentioning the key word. Acording to google, "Google Trends aims to provide insights into broad search patterns. Several approximations are used when computing your results. Please keep this in mind when using it." One down fault is that it approximations based on a querry modle, and does not show exact number of hits over the total search volume of google. Netherless it is a use full tool.

After expermenting with key words for new years, i was currious on it power to predict political out come. After the New Hampsher debates, i payed close attion to the trends of Hillary Cliton and Barack Obama. Thinking that a higher search volume means more voters for that canadit. This experemnt failied for two reason first Clinton won in NH, secoundly I dont think google trends graphs are scalled. On another note, Obama has been know to get more of a responce from young voters, and young voter i think are more likly to use good to dig info on a cannadint.
